If we are not taught or shown better, we can not do better. Think of me like a safety guide who will guide the intentional exploration of the intertwining nature of your learnt coping skills, relationships, past experiences and events, thoughts, feelings, and actions to ultimately help shift you from a state of 'surviving' to a place where you are 'thriving'.

Hi, I'm Isoken (Iso) Ogumbor

I am a Registered Clinical Psychologist.

As a BIPOC and neurodivergent psychologist, I am dedicated to helping others reach a place where they feel like they can chill aka "choose how i live life"- instead of feeling like life has been chosen for them.

I am a Registered Psychologist (6706) with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP), a Psychological Associate (125A) with the Psychological Association of Manitoba, and a Registered Psychologist (1290) with the Saskatchewan College of Psychologists. I am also a NIHB-approved provider for Alberta and Nova Scotia.

About my approach:

Humans are social animals; our brains are built for connection. We crave safe relationships to support us to feel, heal, deal, and grow. We all want to be the best version of ourselves, we just may not know what our best self looks like, or, may lack the support and experience required to discover such.  When we are supported to identify and address the unmet needs that may block us from feeling like 'our best', we gain a greater sense of self. By understanding the impact of our relationships, attachments, and environments, we are able to truly make sense of the choices we make, and actions we may - or may not - take.

I operate from a trauma-informed and person-centered approach. I aim to listen non-judgmentally and with care. Most importantly, I believe that people are resilient. My multifaceted and holistic perspective complements my ability to support in the healing of traumatic experiences and

facilitate post-traumatic growth.

I focus on developing a safe therapeutic relationship, which includes healthy authentic communication, and makes use of humor, information sharing, and evidence based approaches such as emotion-focused therapy, somatic therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Acceptance CT. I encourage active participation and offer opportunities to practice strategies and skills to enhance your ability to navigate challenges

Essentially, my approach within sessions is to intentionally strive to provide a warm presence - to listen with care, to be open to diverse opinions and most importantly, to remember that resilience will amount from not what I do for you,  but ultimately how I am with you.

I aim to offer culturally sensitive treatment, which includes the acknowledgment and encouragement of people to explore the way their thoughts, feelings, and surroundings impact the choices they make and actions they take.

If you're a human, you've likely had some type of hardship that has left you feeling 'off', 'triggered', or 'stuck'. My aim is to support your stride until you can return to a state of balance - emotionally and within every day life. Let's collaborate to create a plan that helps you deal with, feel through, and heal from the things that you've been through.

Within my practice, I'll offer the space needed to uncover and process the root of your struggles and provide you with the skills to stay 'clean' through it all.

I have over 7 years of experience offering therapy to adults, teens, and children in need. I hold additional certifications in trauma-informed expressive arts, attachment-focused therapy, flash therapy, emotion-focused individual & family therapy, and play therapy.

Education & Training 👩🏾‍🎓

I completed my Master of Counselling (Applied Psychology) degree from the University of Lethbridge in 2019 and received the School of Graduate Studies Silver Medal of Merit Award for the Master of Counselling program.

I’ve amassed over 9 years of experience within the mental health field providing evidence-based assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for individuals, groups, and families.

Throughout my career, I have been given the opportunity to take a deep dive into the intertwined phenomena commonly known as complex and/or developmental trauma. >As a result, I have developed an understanding of the many factors that collide to keep people healthy - or block their ability to heal.

I’ve worked for non-profit organizations, school-based services, and Alberta Health Services Community Based Services. In addition, I have experience facilitating both group and individual therapy sessions and psychoeducational workshops.

I’ve completed further training in Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Strengths Based Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Emotion-Focused (Individual) Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Thera-play (Level One Foundational), Trauma-Focused Expressive Arts Therapy, and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). Presently, I am completing the requirements to obtain my certification as an ADHD Certified Clinical Services Provider (ADHD-CCSP).

In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, friends, and my furry angels (aka my dogs). When I am not in therapist-mode, you can catch me BINGE watching something completely random (reality tv… true crime documentaries… Disney shows -circa 2010). My go-to forms of self-care are weightlifting and spending time perfecting my skills as a dissectologist 😊.
